| A Man's Love For His Animals |
|---|
| This story involves the heartache of a childless couple and their love for their four dogs. |
The current chapter starts in the Netherlands, where our couple live with four rescued dogs. Rescued from death row you might say, and involves a series of blunders and misfortune which has left them close to a nervous breakdown. |
After having lived and worked in the Netherlands for two years, Neil and Jacqui decided to move back to the United Kingdom. So they employed the services of a veterinarian to prepare their four dogs, Dakota, Trade In, Chewy and Ratty for travel to the United Kingdom under the pets passport scheme. The vet arrived promptly, assured them that he had all the relevant paperwork, and proceeded to vaccinate all four dogs. |
When it came time to have the blood tests done, Neil rang the Defra help line to check on procedure and was horrified to find out that the vet had started the process in the wrong order, and that the dogs should have been microchipped first. The vet apologised. To add insult to injury, that week Neil was made redundant... Some 6 weeks later the vet microchipped the animals and gave them yet another rabies shot. |
Having planned for Jacqui to move home first and find a home for them, they arranged for their furniture to be shipped and stored in the United Kingdom. |
Then came the final blow, the unemployment system in the Netherlands rejected Neils claim for benefit and he has so far been unable to find any other work up to now..... So now he must wait six months, and probably end up camping in the woods until the dogs have been cleared to enter the United Kingdom. |
Some might say, they are only dogs....others might say destroy them, find them new homes, etc etc. These are our children....quarantine is far too expensive. Some might say that we are stupid for moving to the Netherlands in the first place. Each is entitled to their opinion. |
One thing is for certain, the dogs will remain part of their family.. No matter what the sacrifice. |
